Material test grid generator
Generate a laser power and speed test grid as an SVG: one square per setting, each on its own layer, labelled, for engraving or cutting tests on any material.
Find the right power and speed for a new material in one burn. Rows step through power, columns through speed; every square sits on its own colour layer so your laser software can give each cell its own setting.
Reading the result
For engraving, look for the lightest setting that gives an even tone with no scorching at the edges; one step darker is usually the sweet spot for photos. For cutting, find the fastest column that cuts through cleanly in every row above a given power, then take that row's power and add a 10 % margin on speed for a new sheet.
Keep a library
Write the material, thickness, lens and date on the back of each grid. Settings drift as the tube ages and the lens dirties, and a fresh grid every few months is the cheapest insurance against a scrapped sheet.
